The Croatian Embassy in Buenos Aires receives files from Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, and holds consular days beyond the capital. The criminal-record document is the national Certificado de Antecedentes Penales from the Registro Nacional de Reincidencia — a provincial police certificate is a narrower document and is not a substitute. Apostilles are issued by the Cancillería and the Colegios de Escribanos through the TAD platform, and an RNR certificate can only be apostilled within 90 days of issue.

    Croatia generally works to a six-month recency window, but the Argentine constraint is tighter and comes from the other side: an RNR certificate can only be apostilled within 90 days of issue. Miss it and the certificate is not merely late for Croatia — it is un-apostillable, and has to be ordered again.

  • National, not provincial

    The Registro Nacional de Reincidencia certificate covers the whole country. A provincial police certificate covers one province and answers a narrower question, so it will not stand in for the national one however recently it was issued.

  • One post for three countries

    Buenos Aires also serves Uruguay and Paraguay, so appointment pressure comes from three countries at once. The Archivo General de la Nación is where to request an ancestor’s immigration record when the emigration itself has to be proved for an Article 11 claim.
